Calumet County Circuit Court will resume in-person proceedings this week following a recently approved operational plan. This phased opening is in response to the Wisconsin Supreme Court order that circuit courts can resume jury trials and in-person hearings as long as they create plans to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.
Calumet County Circuit Court recognizes the need to ensure the health and safety of litigants, attorneys, visitors, court staff, judges, and other individuals and will implement a variety of protective measures. The Court will continue to use video and telephone conferencing when possible, as well as allow some staff to work remotely while performing the essential functions of their job. All staff will self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.
For in-person proceedings, face coverings will be required of everyone while in court, and social distancing and appropriate hand hygiene recommendations should be practiced at all times. Vulnerable populations regarding COVID-19 will be accommodated upon their request. Court staff will also screen inmates and individuals for symptoms before transport or entering the court building. Cleaning the court building will continue to be of high importance, as a daily schedule has been established.
The Court has additional plans in place regarding jury trials. Besides the safety measures mentioned above, other considerations have been made for the safety and wellbeing of jurors and staff. This includes alternative seating arrangements and installation of plexiglass shields.
Calumet County Circuit Court is dedicated to following the newly created operational plan in an effort to keep all individuals safe and avoid the spread of COVID-19.
